Steve Jobs Resigns, Tim Cook to Become CEO Apple
What could have been more shocking than Steve Jobs resigning as Apple’s CEO! He was a co-founder of Apple, had remained its CEO twice. Steve Jobs resigned as Apple’s CEO on 24th August, 2011 as announced by Apple.
“Apple’s Board of Directors today announced that Steve Jobs has resigned as Chief Executive Officer, and the Board has named Tim Cook, previously Apple’s Chief Operating Officer, as the company’s new CEO. Jobs has been elected Chairman of the Board and Cook will join the Board, effective immediately”.
He will be replaced by Apple’s Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook who has spent 13 years with the company, while Jobs would continue to work in the capacity of the Chairman Board.
Jobs had been ill for some time. He even went on leave on medical grounds from January to March this year. Earlier he went on leave in 2009 for getting a liver transplant. Finally he has decided to quit the job believing he can no longer shoulder the responsibility demanded of Apple’s CEO. His resignation letter is reproduced below:
“To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:
I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.
I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.
As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.
I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.
I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.
Steve”
Together with Steve Wozniak, Jobs founded Apple in 1976. He was however, forced to leave the company by the Board during the 1980’s and returned again ten years later. Since that day he has only been working to bring us the best of iDevices that we all love so much.
His absence will be greatly felt by Apple employees as well as fans outside Apple. But he will continue to guide the company as Chairman.
We will miss you Jobs!
