Facebook App for iPad Coming out Along with iOS 5 on October 4
With the release of iPhone 5 just around the corner, we have some more more reports that will further spice up the October 4 event at Cupertino.
According to Mashable:
Facebook is planning to launch its app for iPad at the same media event. Not only that but Facebook is also expected to introduce an overhauled iPhone app and even an HTML5-based mobile app marketplace.
Earlier Facebook app for iPad was found within iPhone app by a university student and it could be run on jailbroken devices. However, Facebook was quick to block the app. The app for iPad again came into news when a Facebook engineer Jeff Verkoeyen left Facebook for Google apparently for delay in the launch of Facebook app for iPad although it had been completed since May.
Apple and Facebook have not really enjoyed a congenial relationship in the past. Both have been at odds over s variety of issues. The problem started with Facebook pulling the plug on Ping. The situation got aggravated when Apple integrated Facebook’s rival Twitter into iOS 5.
Keeping in view this past acrimonious history it is quite surprising that Apple would allow Facebook to share the limelight on Oct 4. May be the need to beat Google has brought together by these two giants to work for a common cause.
In addition to its iPad app, Facebook may also unveil an improved app for iPhone featuring design and speed enhancements.
Facebook has also been working to develop an HTML5 platform through which Facebook apps could be brought to mobile devices. Apple is apparently helping out Facebook in this Project named “Project Spartan.”
