Amazon’s New Kindles Introduced at the Amazon Media Event [Pictures]
Finally the cat is out of the bag! As expected Amazon’s press conference on 28th September has finally taken place and as speculated Amazon used the event to unveil its Kindle tablet. But guess what! There was not just one tablet rather it was a handful!
We will let you know about the announcements made at the event one by one.
Kindle Touch
The first announcement pertained to the Kindle Touch having an electronic ink display, infrared interface. it is smaller as compared to the previous versions of Kindle and is WiFi only. It is priced at $139. It will ship on November 21st.
Kindle Touch 3G
This one comes with 3G support in over 100 countries. It will also ship on the same day as the basic Kindle Touch and costs $189.
Budget Kindle
Amazon has also come up with a super-cheap model of Kindle available for only $109. There is also a special offer price of $79. It is a non-touch device weighing only 6oz. there is no physical keyboard but it does have the page turn and menu buttons.
The Kindle Fire
Jeff Bezos – Founder, President and CEO of Amazon introduced the Kindle Fire as:
“Amazon Web Services + Amazon Prime + Amazon Kindle + Amazon App Store + Amazon Instant Video + Amazon MP3…= Kindle Fire.”
It has a dual-core processor and 7-inch multi-touch IPS display, has a weight of 14.6 ounces, and includes a newly introduced web browser called Amazon Silk.
The Kindle Fire includes everything that Amazon has to offer – Amazon’s recent news, Amazon Cloud Player, Amazon Cloud Drive, Kindle Cloud Reader, the streaming deals with Fox and NBCUniversal. The users can also get apps from Amazon’s Android App store including Pandora, Twitter, Facebook, and, most notably, Netflix.
With such a powerfully packaged device, the Kindle sure could give iPad a tough competition.
The Kindle Fire is available on pre-order now for $199, and ships November 15th.
Amazon Silk
In the end is a split browser living partially on Amazon EC2 and partially in Kindle. The browser is “cloud-accelerated” which means that it splits tasks between the cloud and the device.
