CyanogenMod Team has made more progress and has released the first alpha of the CyanogenMod 7.1 for HP TouchPad based on Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread.
After HP decided to discontinue WebOS and HP TouchPad manufacturing, the price of TouchPad fell to $99 only. This resulted in rapid firesales where people just could not seem to get enough of the TouchPads.
Just like the CyanogenMod team, the TouchDroid team is a 4-member team of developers trying to bring Android to the HP TouchPad. They are trying to make the TouchPad boot on Gingerbread 2.3.x.
Over a week ago HP announced discontinuation of WebOS and the tablet that runs the WeOS i.e. HP TouchPad. The TouchPad though launched with much fanfare could not capture the market as expected and its sales remained quite dismal.
HP’s announcement to discontinue WebOS as well HP TouchPad which runs WebOS was followed by slashing of TouchPad price down to $99. This led to TouchPad firesales with user demand more than the TouchPad stock could meet.
The HP TouchPad running on WebOS does not provide support to certain video formats. One such format is Windows Media Video (WMV) files. So you will first have to convert WMV to HP TouchPad H.264/MPEG 4.
There is one big problem that movie lovers are having with HP TouchPad that is does not have support for HD DVD movies playback. But don’t fret! We have found a solution for you guys.
HP will no longer be providing support to its recently launched tablet TouchPad and WEBOS-based smartphones i.e the Veer and Pre line of phones. This came through an announcement that HP is discontinuing its WebOS.
We have already informed that HP’s WebOS-based TouchPad Tablet featuring dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, would be out in the USA on July 1. Now HP has released 9 videos displaying the tablet’s various features such as its notification system, multitasking between apps.
Finally HP has announced that its WebOS-based TouchPad tablet will be out on July 1 in the USA. It will reach United Kingdom, Ireland, France, and Germany a few days later.
